Richardson's Mill building was constructed circa 1831 as a windmill to mill grain. The tower had the usual tapered conical form but was converted by Thomas Richardson, circa 1880, into a steam powered mill . This was a more dependable motive power source and it was presumably at this stage that the sails were removed. The mill building apparently burnt down on 13 March 1970.
