See more photographs This carefully detailed and proportioned Deco-Moderne style block of flats in Garden Street still survives largely intact. The building probably dates to the mid 1940's and comprises ground floor plus three floors of apartments above. The street elevation is strictly symmetrical with a double door, set within a tapered recess and surmounted by the modernist letters forming the name PARK VIEW. This forms the base for a slightly projecting rectangular bay marking the stairwell with its three continuous vertical slot windows rising up and terminating in a narrow cantilevered eyebrow which forms a horizontal ledge across most of the street façade. The flats facing west towards the public park must have a good outlook. Sadly the original balconies have all been enclosed - at least in a consistent manner - but this has removed some of the original design intent to reduce the massing at the building corners.
