| Built as an H-shaped plan with narrow side courts. Jan SMUTS boarded here as a student. It had taken on a victorian guise under a single iron roof. It was bought by the Historical Homes of South Africa Limited in 1971 and restored by OSLER. The vestigial gable was reconstructed as a facsimile of other gables in town of that time, eg Vredelust. The interior had painted floral faience surviving from that time. An annexe has wooden-framed windows from the 1850s (Fransen 2004:179-180). References: |
