35-39 Buitengracht/96-102 Castle Sts Twenty-one people were injured after a balcony collapsed at The Athletic Club & Social on Castle Street in Cape Town’s central business district on Thursday evening [2023 11 02]. (Daily Maverick) The building did not have a first-floor balcony when inspected by Rennie in March 1978. He noted: "First floor: Glazed previous verandah doors - wire mesh closed". He added that a two-storey verandah is visible on Budrick's Panorama c1900. The building got its balcony back (a section of which collapsed in Nov 2023) at some point between 2013 and 2022 (Google street view). References: Rennie, John for CPIA. 1978.
