This group of buildings on the corner of Booth Road were finally established here after the floods of 1905 and 1917 had necessitated constant rebuilding of the original Gengaimman temple. The present site was purchased in 1918, and soon afterwards the small and elegant wood-and-iron Gengaimman temple was built. It is still in existence today and is situated in a grove of mango trees across the road, approximately fifty metres to the northwest. A small brick structure dedicated to Mariaman was then built to the north of the present temple. Ten years later the construction of the main Shiva temple was begun. The renowned S.P.
