At the beginning of 1918 the construction of the church started which would cost about £ 14,000. The cornerstone was laid on 6 April 1918 by one Rev. Radloff, probably Rev. F.G.T. Radloff, formerly of Bloemfontein, Hoopstad and Krugersdorp, who retired in 1914 and died on October 4, 1928. The architects were Frank Emley and Gerard Moerdijk. The church was due to be inaugurated on 10 to 12 October 1919, programs were already printed, but initiated due to unforeseen circumstances could only take place from 2 to 4 April 1920. The town bade farewell to the old church on March 28, 1920. The organ could not arrive in time and was inaugurated at a later stage. The sisters of the church with a good contribution of the Helpmekaar donated the money. (Building Jun 1922:138) See also A short history of Gerard Moerdyk's first church. Horst Müller.
