Snijders laid the cornerstone of the NG church Goodwood on this day in the middle of the Second World War. This design of the Paarl architect Wynand Louw is reminiscent of his design for, among others, Napier and Somerset-West's church. The austerity measures due to war shortages later resulted in numerous headaches: There were leaks, European wood beetles and a ceiling that threatened to collapse. The zinc plates in place of the copper plates later had to get another roofing on top to solve the nightmare of leaks. Also needed to save money, replace the wood that was unripe and untreated. Nevertheless, that ceiling had to be replaced later. Plastered exterior walls, which were cheaper at the time than the planned decorative stones, have cost [the congregation] a lot of cleaning over the years." (Morné van Rooyen, May 2026) References:
