(CPIA MS HJ Louw) Mark Finnigan found the following information on the internet attributed to Stellenbosh University :- "De Beers Building - where the Department of Chemistry and Polymer Sciences are located. It was the first building to be erected after the university came into being in 1918. The foundation was laid in 1920 but the building was completed in 1923 thanks to a donation of £25000 by the De Beers Company of Somerset West. For many years the De Beers Company also donated all of the inorganic acids required by the department." (Mark Finnigan, Artefacts FB page 2025 05 05)
