The simple foundation stone for this small church was laid by Thomas Burnham King, a member of the Legislative Assembly for the Victoria East Constituency from 1902 to 1906. King was the head of the firm of Baker, King & Co of East London and of Baker, Baker & Co of King Williams Town. He represented the Cape Colony at the Bloemfontein Customs Conference in 1903.
