Old School
Barkly East, Eastern Cape

Originally built as an Aided Undenominational Public School on the site of the present library. On “Two pieces of land containing together seventy-five sq roods (7.59Ha). Being Nos. 31 and 32, Block C, …. De Villiers Street.” The new curriculum included Euclid algebra and “Tonic Solfa Singing”. When the church took the decision to locate their new church hall there, Mountjoy, as part of the contract, disassembled the building and rebuilt it as the NGK Mission Church proximate to the then township. It then became a school and is now abandoned.
