| This building was chosen as an exhibit at the Pretoria University School of Architecture 50 year Alumni exhibition held at the Pretoria Art Gallery. The name of the University of Bophuthatswana was changed to the Mafikeng Campus of the University of the North West in 2004. From information card inside the 1987 First Day Cover: The University of Bophuthatswana (UNIBO) was founded in 1978 and the first students were enrolled in 1980. The University started in converted private dwellings but has grown into some magnificent buildings, of which the main lecture block is the largest. It consists of eighteen fully-equipped lecture halls offering seating for 40 to 200 people. At full capacity 2 440 seats are supplied in the block. At present there are about 1 700 students on the campuses at Mmabatho and Taung, where the Faculty of Agriculture is situated. The faculties of Administration and Management, Education, Law, and Health and Social Science are situated at Mmabatho. A technical campus is planned for Odi, with buildings starting in 1987. |
