Keeling and Swart present in a photo-essay a series of old images found in their researches as a tribute to the memory and achievement of the years where Eclectic Wilhelmiens reigned supreme and established the character of the rapid urbanising Reef and Pretoria axis after the discovery of gold. Sadly most of this fabric on the Witwatersrand has been lost. Pretoria retains a lot of the institutional fabric, but most commercial buildings have been replaced over the last century.
