Lexicon Tercentenary (Van Riebeeck) Festival _____________________________________________________ The Tercentenary or Van Riebeeck Festival [for Afrikaans see Van Riebeeck-fees] was one of the three large state supported festivals of the C20 in South Africa [the others being the Symbolic Ossewa-Trek and the other the inauguration of the Voortrekker Monument] in which the tercentenary of the landing of Jan van Riebeeck at the Cape on 1652 04 06 was marked on the days leading up to and including 1952 04 06 by festivities and pageantry focussed in Cape Town, but celebrated throughout the then Union of South Africa. Architects played their role, designing celebratory pavilions, plaques and special memorial structures.
