Lexicon Khoekhoen _____________________________________________________ [Also to be found as spelt ''Khoi'' and ''Khoikhoi''] 'Khoekhoen' (noun) is the plural when referring to these people or their culture; 'Khoekhoe' (adjective) when referring to an individual trait or their language. A collective name for the nomadic pastoralists who together with the San [Bushmen], occupied the Cape when the white settlers from Europe arrived in the seventeenth century.(See Walton, 1995: 125) Structures particularly associated with the early Khoekhoen are the Matjieshuis and the Kapsteilhuis.
