The style of the Italian Mediterranean vernacular generally influenced in those who had done the Grand Tour (Baker) or were Rome Scholars (Leith), in their use of rough-hewn stone, whitewashed walls, profiled red clay pan tiles and columns and arches with distinct roof overhangs and profiled mouldings as an architectural ensemble.
