Feather Palace

_____________________________________________________

In the early 1900s ostrich feathers became high fashion in Europe, at one stage a single ostrich feather could cost up to 100 pounds. The farmers in the Oudtshoorn district became extremely wealthy and built large palatial houses. Many of these were imported from England in kit form. These houses became known as Feather Palaces or Ostrich Palaces.
