Previously the Parktown & Westcliff Heritage Trust the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation was launched in October 2012.
The Trust was formed to conserve the rich heritage of Parktown and Westcliff, two of the oldest suburbs of Johannesburg. It was formed after hundreds of homes in Parktown were destroyed to make way for government institutions.
Parktown was started in 1892 when Florence Phillips persuaded her husband to build her a mansion there. The Phillips’ were soon joined by other successful entrepreneurs, later to be called the Randlords.
