Bellville, Western Cape

Founded: 1940

Named after Charles Bell, Surveyor-General of the Cape from 1848 - 1872.

Originally called Twelve Mile Stone, the exact distance from the centre of Cape Town. It was originally founded as a railway station on the line from Cape Town to Stellenbosch and the Strand, and renamed Bellville in 1861.
