DipArch 1931 (Cape Town) Also spelt BEHRMAN Berman trained at the University of Cape Town School of Architecture from 1928. His name was spelt Behrman, later modified to Berman. While at the university he worked for eighteen months in the offices of various architects: no details are known of this stage of his career. He graduated in 1931 as the first diploma student in the Department of Architecture, registering with the Institute of South African Architects (ISAA) in 1932. In 1933 he was elected an Associate member of the RIBA. After several years, during which he and Goodman NOICK worked together with a view to a partnership which never materialised, Berman set up a vigorous practice on his own account in Port Elizabeth in 1936. In 1949 he registered a strong objection with the ISAA to Felix's publications on do-it-yourself designs for various types of buildings usually the preserve of architects. (See 24 Modern Homes and Weekend Houses.) By 1959 he is still in Port Elizabeth of address Richardson Building, Market Square.
