| | POWELL, William Henry, JnrBorn: fl. 1890 Died: 1903Architect |
The son of WH POWELL about whom not much is yet known. He probably came to South Africa with his father in about 1890 and practised with his father in Durban (cf POWELL & SON) from at least 1898, when they applied for a rebate from the government having paid for a second licence for an architect. After his father's death in 1900, Powell continued the practice under the same name until 1903. He became a founder member of the Natal Institute of Architects in 1902 and seems to have entered into partnership with AG CROSS in 1902. No further records of Powell have yet been recorded in South Africa, it is possible that he returned to England around 1903. NIA 1902. (Hillebrand 1975) All truncated references not fully cited in 'References' are those of Joanna Walker's original text and cited in full in the 'Bibliography' entry of the Lexicon. |
