Born in Malmesbury, Cape Province, son of Johannes Rabie (1873-1962) and Sarah Maria nee van Ryneveld (1875-19??) (FS). Educated at Paarl Boys' High School and studied architecture at the University of Cape Town. In 1933 he entered the office of John PERRY in Cape Town. He became a member of the Institute of South African Architects in 1937, while he was working in the office of HONIKMAN & LEEB in Cape Town. He left this office to work for the Municipal Housing Office in Cape Town in about 1939. In 1959 he is recorded as a salaried member of the CPIA in the employ of the Building Survey Branch of the City Engineer's Department, City of Cape Town Municipality, City Hall, Cape Town, Cape Province, while in 1969 recorded as a retired member of the same address. He retired from the CPIA in 1977. He married Mary Geraldine Maskew (1916-2003) in 3 Anchor Bay, Cape Town, Cape Province on 1939 09 30 by whom he had at least one daughter (FS).
