RAMJEE, ?

Born: fl. 1904
Died: 1923

Architect

According to Mikula et al, (1983:16) little is currently known about this skilful temple-builder. He is known to have been a Gujerati-speaking 'passenger' immigrant, and evidently knowledgeable about temple-building. Of the five temples ascribed to two were of wood and iron and belong to the latter half of the nineteenth century. The Shree Gopalal Temple in Temple Road, Verulam, opened in 1913 by Mahatma Gandhi, was one of the wood-and-iron temples, and only the dome is said to be by Ramjee. Two of the five temples have been demolished.
