The son of Walter REID, Cyril Walter left school in 1910 and appears to have trained in REID, AH & W's office in Johannesburg and to have attended classes in architecture. He was employed in his father's office in 1915 and was closely involved with the office's work on the Polana Hotel in Lourenco Marques (Maputo), and with the Medical School at University of the Witwatersrand, both commissions won in competition. Following the death of AH REID in 1922, Walter and his son continued the practice in Johannesburg (cf REID, W & CW) until 1927 when Cyril Walter Reid died suddenly of pneumonia aged 35. Walter Reid continued the practice and was joined by AR MARTIN (cf REID & MARTIN).
