Practised in Bloemfontein and Kimberley. He was in the service of the Public Works Department in the Orange Free State for some time before he left in 1920 in order to take over the control of the building department of EA Ticharab Ltd. He entered into partnership with GF WRIGHT (cf WRIGHT & RUNHAM) in Kimberley in 1930, the two had previously worked together in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT in Kimberley until 1920. The partnership ended when Wright died in 1934. Runham then entered into partnership (1934) with J WILLOUGHBY-WILLIAMS (cf WILLOUGHBY-WILLIAMS & RUNHAM) in Kimberley.
