Born in Winterthur, Switzerland. Worked in private practice in Cape Town in 1903. In 1905 he entered the DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS of the CAPE COLONY. He was listed living in Maynard Road, Cape Town in 1906; WJ DELBRIDGE was employed in his office about this date. Schauffelberg left South Africa on winning the competition for an opera house in Belgium (1908). He later designed the Fortune Theatre, London. He is recorded as receiving financial assistance from the Swiss Club in 1939, which implies he died after this year.
