SNOWBALL, Herbert Henry

Born: 1878
Died: 1914 06 27

Architect

Born in Newcastle-on-Tyne, England, Snowball served in the Anglo-Boer War having arrived in South Africa either before the war or specifically to serve in the war, during which he contracted Bright's disease. After the war he worked first in Cape Town for a short time before joining LECK & EMLEY in Johannesburg (c1902) where he remained for five years. In 1907 he followed mining pursuits in the Pietersburg district before returning to Johannesburg and joining the office of T SCHAERER. He was admitted into partnership with Schaerer shortly before his death, caused by the disease he had contracted during the war. A house designed by him in 1913 seems to indicate that he entered practice on his own account shortly before his death.

He is buried in the Braamfontein Cemetery where he shares a grave with his mother, Isabel.
