| | SURRIDGE, Edward HenryBorn: 1840 Died: 1907 11 04Architect |
Was born in Sussex, England. He was in South Africa by 1881 when he married, his wife dying the following year. He worked as an architect and farmer (occupation given on his death certificate) in Stuartstown (Ixopo) from about 1890. The architect WH BAILEY gave Surridge's name as a reference at some point, having worked for Surridge c1890. In 1893 Surridge was listed as a farmer only at which profession he worked for the next twelve years. In 1905 he was again listed working as an architect, still in Stuartstown. He died while on a visit to England. (NAD MSCE 34/18; Ntl Almncs 1890-1905; see also BAILEY, WH; Pilkington 1992) All truncated references not fully cited in 'References' are those of Joanna Walker's original text and cited in full in the 'Bibliography' entry of the Lexicon.
