A partnership between JS BURG and CS LODGE in Springs, 1935. The venture was commenced with very little notice, Springs being among the boom towns on the Reef at the time. It was, however, more a preserve of Johannesburg architects (Burg 1989). The firm's first job, the Netherlands Bank Building in Springs (1936) was passed on to them by an elderly Dutch architect, J BREYER (Burg 1989). Lodge was almost immediately called to Pretoria by JR BURG and JS Burg continued in Springs on his own until about 1941. Once Lodge and JS Burg had joined JR Burg in partnership the firm became known as BURG, LODGE & BURG. (Burg 1989; Burg et al 1984; SAAR Jul 1935:230, 231; SAB Jun 1936:40) All truncated references not fully cited in 'References' are those of Joanna Walker's original text and cited in full in the 'Bibliography' entry of the Lexicon.
