'For many years Carmichael was employed by the Johannesburg Corporation as a senior building inspector' (Russell-Boulton 1987), a post he left in 1930 to enter into partnership with John BOULTON (cf BOULTON & CARMICHAEL). Carmichael was born in Glasgow, but no information about his training is known. After the dissolution of the partnership with Russell-Boulton in May 1932, he continued to practise on his own account in Johannesburg until about 1935. ISAA 1928.
