EF ALLEN qualified as a quantity surveyor at the University of the Witwatersrand (n.d.) and while a student, he designed a Theatre Club. In 1950 he went into partnership with DS HADDON (cf HADDON & ALLEN).

In 1959 he is recorded as serving on the Board of the Chapter of South African Quantity Surveyors of the ISAA. His address in 1959 was 503 Trust Building, Loveday Street, Johannesburg. In 1969 he is recorded as of address Annan House, 86 Commissioner Street, Johannesburg.
