By 1948 Wepener had been senior architect in charge of housing for ISCOR at Vanderbijlpark, with Ross Gildenhuys as his assistant. Not liking the job much, he left to work for an architect there. He had met HWE STAUCH in 1936 when he was a student, and when Gildenhuys told him of an opening for a partner in STAUCH’s firm, he got in touch with STAUCH and joined the firm in 1948. The partnership ended in 1951. In 1959 he is recorded of his own account of address 319 Centenary Building, bureau Lane, Pretoria, Transvaal. In 1969 his address is recorded as 4302 DBS Building, Central Street, Pretoria, Transvaal.
