CORLETT, Daniel Fargher

Contractor and Builder; b. Isle of Man. Came to South Africa in 1897. Past President of the Witwatersrand Master Builders’ Association (1917), and President of the National Federation of Building Trade Employers (1921-22). Is on the Committee of the Rand Aid Association, and has been a keen worker on the Juvenile Affairs Board since its inception, and is at present doing his second year as Chairman. Has been a member of the Ratepayers’ Association in Yeoville for many years, acting as Chairman during part of the period, and in Oct., 1924, was elected to the Municipal Council of Johannesburg (Yeoville Ward), by a majority of 1,240 over both his opponents. He is now Chairman of the Finance Committee and also of the Special Industrial Committee appointed by the Council. Is also Chairman of the Governing Body of the Johannesburg High School for Girls; M. in 1903. Rec.: Golf. Res., "Ellen Vannin," Mitchell Street, Berea, Johannesburg.
