Born: fl 1892

In 1892 two of the adjunct-architects were dismissed from the employ of the DPW of the ZAR, namely Jan Willem VAN DER STADT (fl 1892) and Johan Carl Maximillian HAGER (1870-?) due to a decision by the Volksraad brought on by a shortage of funds (MINNAAR, 2000: 39). By 1895 VAN DER STADT is again recorded as being in the employ of the DPW of the ZAR as a Technical Officer in temporary position at a salary of £35 per month and in 1897 recorded as being in permanent employ of the DPW as Chief Supervisor, Pretoria at an annual salary of £500 per annum (Almanak, 1897: 243), at the time having sworn an oath of allegiance to the State (MINNAAR, 2000: 45), a position he retained until the outbreak of the South African War. He is recorded as a deportee paid severance pay in Brussels in 1900.

All truncated references not fully cited in 'References' are those of Joanna Walker's original text and cited in full in the 'Bibliography' entry of the Lexicon.
