He emigrated to the then ZAR where he was appointed Supervisor 3rd class in 1895 under WIERDA in the ZAR PWD (MINNAAR, 2000: 45). In 1899 his salary was £300 per annum (Almanak 1899). He married Margaretha Catherina Kolbe(1874-1943) 0n 1898 02 02 in Wakkerstroom in the then ZAR by whom he had five children, Tsetse Claudia (1900-1968), Gerka Peter (1901-1975), George Augustus (1903-1976), Sybrand (1908-1971) and Frederik Fortunatus (1910-1980 (Family Search).
