Nothing is currently recorded about Dembitzer's origins. He studied architecture as a full-time student at the Michaelis School of Fine Art, Cape Town from March 1929 until 1935, during which time he toured Europe on a University Student Tour (December 1930-February 1931) and also visited North America and Canada from December 1932 until February 1933. On his return to South Africa he worked for a year (1933-1934) in WAR FALLON's office in Cape Town. After a period (1935-1937?) with PERRY & LIGHTFOOT he entered into partnership with H E TWENTYMAN JONES in 1937 (cf TWENTYMAN JONES & DEMBITZER). The partnership ended in 1941. By 1959 and again in 1969 he is recorded as a retired member of the CPIA being of 15 Arlington Court, Vlei Road Muizemberg.
