Familysearch.org gives his date of birth as 28 02 1914 but no birth certificate shown. He married Anna vd Merwe (1922-2010) in Bloemfontein on 25 June 1943. She was a granddaughter of Pres MT Steyn. The two witnesses who signed their marriage registration were Dr DF Malan, later Prime Minister, and MT Steyn, probably Anna's cousin Theunie Steyn who became a Supreme Court Judge.
