BOUTEN, Petrus Hubertus

Engineer


Born in Blerik, Venlo, Limburg the Netherlands. He surveyed the railway lines between Amersfoort and Kersteren in the Netherlands. In 1888 he entered the services of the NZASM as Surveyor and with the Engineer, C GROLL, found and surveyed the alternative shorter route between Komatipoort and Waterval Boven for that section of the NZASM Eastern Line. In about 1890 he surveyed the NZASM Barberton Branch Line. He acted as Chief Foreman for the construction of the NZASM Eastern Line Tunnel.

In 1896 he established the company 'Weg en Werken' and supervised the construction of the Springs and Heidelberg Railway Stations for the NZASM.

In the Anglo-Boer War he was depoirted by the British. He then worked on railway construction projects in Nigeria.

In 1941 he published his memoirs De aanleg van 't Oostespoor.
