He succeeded Dr HAMLIN as City Engineer of Johannesburg, a post he held until 1961. Much of the planning for the elimination of subways and level crossings in the central city as well as the new railway station with the provisioning of road infrastructure including the Queen Elizabeth Bridge and many related inner-city road widening schemes and accomodation of over- and under-passes to link into the elevated by-pass highway system were initiated and done during his tenure.
