Ennis worked as an architect with the Provincial Works Department in Pietermaritzburg in about 1938. Recorded in 1959 as a salaried member of the NIA in the employ of the Natal Provincial Works Department, Pietermaritzburg, Natal. In 1969 he is recorded as a retired member of the NIA of address 9 Pugin Building, Chapel Street, Pietermaritzburg, Natal.
