Principal Architect & Heritage Practitioner.
Brendan is a founding partner of MAYAT HART ARCHITECTS AND HERITAGE CONSULTANTS with Yasmin MAYAT. Brendan studied his professional architectural degrees at the University of the Witwatersrand graduating with distinction. After graduating from Wits in 2005 Brendan worked at KATE OTTEN ARCHITECTS for 7 years working on a number of award winning projects. In addition to professional architectural degrees Brendan also holds a Masters of Philosophy in the in Conservation of the Built Environment from the University of Cape Town (with his dissertation topic “The (Dis)Continuity of the Johannesburg West Dutch Reformed Church: A Study of the Impact and Significance of the Conversion of a former Dutch Reformed Church into a Mosque) and is an accredited professional member of Association of Professional Heritage Practitioners (APHP). Brendan is a member of staff of the School of Architecture and Planning at the University of the Witwatersrand. He teaches in both the under and post graduate programmes in the school alongside supervision of professional masters degrees. Brendan lectures widely on heritage and conservation and sits on the Heritage Committee of the Gauteng Institute for Architecture (GIfA).
