Greer was born in the Transvaal at Premier Mine. He was the bother of NJ GREER and joined the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT in Pretoria in 1929 where he was promoted to architectural assistant grade II in 1930. He left the PWD in 1935 and set up in private practice before 1938, and appears to have executed work in Delmas before being asked to design a small block of flats for Mr T Marais in Pretoria in 1937/8.
