HERTZOG was a pupil of THIBAULT and ANREITH in their short time as pioneering teaching at the Technical Institute founded by the Lodge de Goede Hoop.

A sworn Land Surveyor in 1814 and assistant surveyor general from 1828 until 1847, Hertzog worked in the Cape.
