According to Kesting (1978:775), Koents designed the Dutch Reformed Church in Swellendam between 1798 and 1802. Lewcock states that he was a surveyor and designer/builder of houses in Swellendam around 1825. It would appear that Koents spent most of his career in Swellendam.
