The section between Sir Lowrie's Pass and Houw Hoek Pass built by Michell in 1831 in order to negotiate two river drifts, that of the Palmiet and Steenbras. It has all but disappeared in later reconstructions and realignments with the provision of contemporary culverts and bridges.
