The foundation stone was laid by the Hon Sir Walter Hely Hutchinson on 10 Oct 1906.

The semi-circular stained glass fanlight above the entrance door records the Latin phrase "In Cruce Salus" which translated means "Salvation comes from the Cross". It is said that as Christ redeemed the world by His cross, so the faithful are redeemed by patiently bearing their own cross.

The convent is situated next to the Sacred Heart Catholic Cathedral.
