SCHARER drew plans for the Rustenburg Town Hall in 1911 and for the revision of these plans in 1912. Work on the building began in 1913 and opened in December 1913. (Scharer biography) "The first Town Hall was designed by the architect W. SCHARER but Karl HEYNE was asked to discuss certain proposed alterations with the architect. Karl HEYNE's tender of about R5400 was then accepted. The Town Hall was taken into use on the 2nd of December 1913. Unfortunately, however, it burnt down on New Year's Eve 1931."
