Building of the second Town Hall began within a few months after the fire which destroyed the first Town Hall in 1931.

"..., but fortunately the loss was tempered by the fact that the structure had just been insured, and only a single premium paid! This happy chance enabled the Municipality, within a relatively few months, to finance the building of a new Town Hall, larger and more handsome than its predecessor". (Eric Rosenthal ['Rustenburg Romance', 1979])

The building was completed in little more than a year. This is verified by the entry and the date shown on the programme of a revue staged by 'The Rustenburg Amateur Players' at that time.

Karl Heyne died at the end of that year.
