The transcription of the National Monuments Council's plaque reads as follows: : OLD HARBOUR, HERMANUS This harbour was the centre of a thriving fishing industry for more than a century after fishermen from Herries Bay (near Hawston) had settled here in the eighteen- fifties. National Monuments Council VISBAAI, HERMANUS Hierdie hawe was goed 'n eeu lank die middelpunt van 'n florerende visbedryf sedert vissers van Herriesbaai (naby Hawston) in die vyftigerjare van die neëntiende eeu hier kom woon het. Raad vir Nasionale Gedenkwaardighede 1970 The harbour was declared a National Monument in 1970 and is now a Provincial Heritage Site.
