Built for the 1936 Empire Exhibition at Milner Park, Johannesburg. Caption for attached photograph: Photograph of the Ice Rink and Ballroom with Art Deco style clock tower. The Bien Donne Restaurant is also just visible on the right hand side. The buildings are foregrounded by the expansive tropical rockery and small stone bridge (visible on the right hand side). The photograph forms an illustration on page 10 of a commemorative and advertising brochure published by Piggott Brothers Limited, an English company tasked with the construction of the majority of the temporary exhibition buildings on the Exhibition site. The brochure is titled 'THE EMPIRE EXHIBITION JOHANNESBURG 1936 -7' and was issued with the compliments of the Official Contractors, Piggott Bros. & Co. Ltd. Established 1780, 220-226 BISHOPSGATE AND 1 & 3 ARTILLERY LANE, LONDON, E.C.2. Submitted by the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation via William Martinson.
