Click to view large map Coordinates: | KENTVIEW Estate is intended as a garden township for group living. The site is 13 access [5.26 ha], two acres [0.8 ha] of which will be a park. Flat buildings will cover two acres [0.8 ha], less than 20 per cent of the area. The remaining 9 acres [3.6 ha] will be laid out as gardens and lawns for the flat dwellers. The flats are designed in blocks separated by gardens. Provision has been made for a swimming pool, paddling pool, bowling green and playgrounds. A system of unit construction has been used for the flats which can be adapted to provide one or more units depending on the accommodation required. All kitchens are equipped with eye-level ovens, with separate hotplate stoves at counter height. Glen Ridge, the block illustrated in this feature, is the first part of the scheme to be completed. All flats face north, east or west so that all of them get sun. They are sound insulated from each other and all access corridors are enclosed for weather protection.
